Japan Urges China to Reverse Advisory Discouraging Travel to Japan

Japan has called on China to take corrective steps after Beijing issued a notice discouraging its citizens from traveling to Japan. According to Japanese officials, the advisory has raised concerns in Tokyo amid already heightened diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said Japan has formally conveyed its position to Chinese authorities, urging them to reconsider the move. He emphasized that such advisories can negatively impact people-to-people exchanges and overall bilateral relations.

China’s travel warning reportedly came in response to recent comments by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who stated that a potential Chinese attack on Taiwan could pose an existential threat to Japan. The remarks have further strained ties between the two Asian neighbours.

Despite the friction, Kihara stressed the importance of continued communication between Japan and China, noting that dialogue remains essential to managing differences and maintaining regional stability.

The development marks another point of tension in an already complex relationship shaped by security concerns, public diplomacy, and competing regional interests.
